Welcome to the 2022 TCNJ Mini-Baja Competition Team

Description

Design and manufacture a single-seat, all-terrain, off-road sporting vehicle. The car must be competition-ready and have 4WD capabilities. To be competition-ready, the vehicle must adhere to competition guidelines and also be designed to be marketable, reliable, maintainable, and economic.

SAE Collegiate Design Series Competition

The team will take part in the Baja SAE Design Series Competition which will be held at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York, NY from June 2 - 5, 2022. SAE provides a number of competition rules and guidelines that the team must adhere to and pass technical inspections in order to be eligible for the competition. The competition includes static events (tech inspection/engine inspection and dynamic brake check, design evaluation, cost evaluation, business presentation) and dynamic events (endurance, land maneuverability, acceleration, hill climb, and suspension/rock crawl) which will be scored to provide overall team rankings.

The team was formed in May of 2021 with the intention of elaborating on the extensive work from the 2020 Test Mule. The vehicle will be broken down into 5 different subsystems: frame, front suspension, rear suspension, ergonomics, and powertrain. Regarding the Senior Project aspect, the team will have to develop full presentations in regular intervals to track the progress of the project to the Mechanical Engineering Department. Regarding the static events for SAE, the team must submit a Roll Cage Documentation, Cost Reduction Report, Business Plan, Online Cost Report, and a Final Design Review. For Senior Projects 1 & 2, the team must also make a report documenting all their work per semester.

The Mini-Baja Senior Project has been a part of TCNJ's Mechanical Engineering Department for over 30+ years with students eager to join the team from the moment they step foot on campus. It is also one of the 4 perennial projects offered at TCNJ alongside the ASME Human Powered Vehicle (HPVC), SAE Aero Design Team, and TCNJ Solar Splash. These projects all have the ability to attend competitions to display their skills and engineering knowledge. The TCNJ Motorsports team is excited to take this year's iteration to competition in June with hopes to take home the gold!
